Warrior sprite

Warrior sprite

This is part of the Glee in boots wallpaper I’m drawing (see last two posts). I’ve already started coloring, but looking at it this morning...I may find myself redrawing Glee altogether, because while the final drawing is competent, it seems to have lost all the sexy from the original sketch.

That’s always a danger, of course. You go from sketching to a tighter drawing, and you get the details but risk losing the spontaneity. But you don’t necessarily lose spontaneity through repetition; you gain spontaneity through practice. I see art as not much different from stage performance. You practice in the sketchbook, and the finished art is the performance. But it’s easy to tighten up and get stage fright.
