Kipper 2.

Quick start

Basic pages, and a comic archive

OK, we assume that you've installed Kipper, tested it on the dummy folder, and you're ready and rarin' to go.

First, you want to gather up your materials. You'll want to make a decision where to keep:

You might want to keep everything all in the same folder, but you don't have to. Don't let the flexibility confuse you. :D

The template can be a special file just for that purpose, or you can edit a pre-existing web page for double-duty. Use Kipper's content tags to indicate where you want the content to go.

<!-- content:start -->
<!-- content:end -->

See formatting when you're ready for more details. But this is enough to get you started.

Now, make some source files. These are fragments that will go inside your template. Name them for the pages you want to make: index.txt for index.html, links.txt for links.html, etc.

The source files can be text files (.txt) or include files (.inc). They can really be anything you want them to be.

For now, don't fuss over these files too much. Include a title in the first line, and some sentences below. We just want to get you started.

Now go to Kipper's interface (yoursite.com/kipper/index.php) and tell Kipper where the files are, the name of the template, and the file extensions you chose. Fiddle around with some of the other settings too, if you want. Enter a new name and save it as a job file.

After saving the settings, the default report page will tell you if there are any obvious errors.

Click on "make pages", and you should (knock on wood) get a report of the pages made. These are also links that will take you to the finished product. How convenient!

Ready to make an archive of comics? Save a new job file, and point the source directory to a folder full of comics. Check some more settings. You want navigation on, right?

You must also enter the relative page2img path, so the finished pages will know which folder to get the comics from! This path is different than the path to the files from Kipper. If you're making the pages in the same folder as the graphics, leave it blank.

After you save the settings, click on "img2src" to create a batch of temporary source files. Then click on "make pages" to finish the job.

To keep your folder clean, click on "trash img2src". This will delete just those temporary files.

There. You're on your way to a bigger and better world of, uh, fooling around with websites.
